Lyneham Flying Club Aerobatics Experience and Training

Lyneham Flying Club has a Slingsby Firefly T67M-Mk2, which is used for aerobatic training.

In order for a pilot to fly aerobatics on their own, any organisation will ask for proof of having completed the AOPA (or equivalent) competence in aerobatics course.

The Lyneham Flying Club is registered with AOPA as an aerobatic training organisation.  Five of the instructors (Roger Milburn, Ian Churchill, Jim Brockett, Andrew Beech and Bob McPhee) are registered to teach the AOPA basic and standard aerobatics course.  More details are available at the club.

Manoeuvres such as Loops, Barrel Rolls, Slow Rolls, Stall Turns, cuban 8s and spinning are all taught on the Basic Aerobatics course.

More advanced manoeuvres can be taught on the Standard Aerobatics Course.

There is a one off charge of £30 the first time parachutes are required to be worn.  This charge is to cover parachute maintenance.

If you are interested, please arrange to start the course by contacting the club.  You will need to acquire, and read, the book "Basic Aerobatics" By Campbell and Tempest, ISBN 1853101087.  This is the book recommended by AOPA for the course.

The book "Aerobatics Principles and Practice" by David Robson ISBN 9781843360810 is a little more user friendly and at least as comprehensive.
